The art of Chinese exercise therapy has come of age, and the exercise programs used in China today have been refined by thirty years of modern research. This book, written by a well-known Chinese health writer at the Zhongshan Medical College in Canton, incorporates the best of a variety of traditional Chinese exercises largely unknown in the West. And, as an important aspect of Chinese medicine is the mind/body interaction, many of them combine mental with physical activities.
Based on Dr. Zhuo's knowledge of exercise disciplines, and his extensive clinical experience, these programs are tailored for a great diversity of health needs and levels of fitness. Included are a variety of programs designed to maintain health and longevity for the ""average"" person, as well as for the sedentary, the elderly, for children, pregnant women, and athletes.
On the basis of his extensive clinical experience Dr. Zhuo has included therapeutic exercises for ten common conditions, including hypertension, gastro-intestinal problems, heart disease, paraplegia, and insomnia. In the past, Western patients and physicians have tended to rely primarily on treatment via medication, while therapeutic exercise for recovery has been neglected. The exercises here described provide an important new direction in this regard.
